Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Manager, Volunteer Services and the Manager of MMR, the Coordinator of Volunteer Services MMR provides full-scale engagement and lead support of volunteers and practicum students at the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre (MMR), in alignment with the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement and professional best practices. Primary responsibilities include resource planning, risk mitigation and records management; position design and recruitment; screening and selection; orientation and training; scheduling and communication, as well as performance management, recognition, and retention.

The role is up to 37.5 hours per week between mid-March to mid-October. After mid-October, hours will be reduced to part-time thereafter, depending on the work available. The Marine Mammal Rescue Centre is off-site in downtown Vancouver due to quarantine reasons.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Education and Experience:

1+ years people management experience; preferably coordinating volunteers;
1 year event planning experience or equivalent;
1 year teaching/ facilitation experience preferred;
Degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources, Business Administration and/ or Environmental Sciences preferred;
Volunteer management certification/courses/training or equivalent preferred;
Membership in VMPC would be an asset;
CVA certification or CHRP designation would be an asset.
Valid BC driver’s license

Excellent telephone manner;
Ability to handle conversations with diplomacy and confidentiality;
High level of personal accountability and motivation;
Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills;
Good time management skills with the ability to keep on task with strategic items while managing day-to-day responsibilities;
Strong written communication and editing skills;
Intermediate teaching/training skills;
Basic presentation, group and meeting facilitation skills;
Intermediate MS Office Skills; Outlook, Word, Excel;
Good creative problem solving skills;
Excellent event planning and coordination skills;
Preferred knowledge of aquatic animal life and/or conservation;
Demonstrated passion for people development and volunteerism;
Basic database skills, experience using Volunteer Impact an asset;
Active demonstration of the company’s values and mission.

Additional Information

Working Conditions:

Shift days and times flexible and will be set according to the needs of the Rescue Centre and/or Volunteer Services. Evening and weekend work is required.
The Marine Mammal Rescue Centre is off-site in East Vancouver due to quarantine reasons;
Exposure to slippery conditions and uneven surfaces;
The incumbent will work in a shared office environment with the usual ergonomic risks.
