Panel Discussion: Coordinating Volunteers in a Union Environment

We will explore some common scenarios coordinators of volunteers encounter when working in union environments and discuss potential solutions and approaches to them. We will also share tips, techniques and strategies for building positive working relationships with the union and unionized staff. Send topics and situations you would like to discuss by February 18th to pd@vmpc.ca

Presented by: Bobby Hrehoruk and Kylene Mellor, CVA


Kylene is a certified Volunteer Administrator who has been working in the field of Volunteer Management for almost 20 years.  As the Manager, Volunteer Resources with the IWK Health Centre in Nova Scotia, Kylene brings knowledge and expertise in all areas of the volunteer cycle.  She has worked for, and volunteered for, a number of charities over the years and truly loves working with and motivating volunteers. She is currently a Board Member with VMPNS, CCVA and is an active volunteer in her community.

Bobby Hrehoruk avidly volunteers and is Past President of Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada (VMPC). He was a former union president of a CUPE local while working at the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), and is also a past president of Local 75 Housing Co-Op. Bobby has had long career working in volunteer engagement and philanthropy, and has is a strong advocate for social justice and specifically the LGBTQI community. Bobby currently works in major gifts fundraising at the Ontario College of Art & Design University, and has worked with the United Way Toronto, Rainbow Railroad, Prostate Cancer Canada, AIDS Committee of Toronto, McGill University and the Scott Mission.
