We want to engage all members of the community in our work, but how can we remove barriers to make our programs and volunteer opportunities more inclusive and accessible?

This session will discuss how to create a culture of belonging by using universal program design to promote inclusion in your volunteer team. We’ll share strategies for how to have conversations with staff and volunteers around accessibility and disability. We’ll also provide you with tips and techniques to help you learn about each applicant’s uniqueness and the gifts during the intake process and guidance on how to make reasonable accommodations to allow them to become involved. You’ll leave with a variety of tools, resources and references to help you put these ideas into practice.

This webinar will be offered through zoom. In addition to some presented content, we are hoping that you will all share your own success stories around this topic and engage in discussion on how to make our programs more inclusive and barrier-free.

Krista Lambie is an educational professional with a decade of experience working within an innovative university to proactively remove barriers to access and to devise accommodations that facilitate participation. Krista’s passion for increasing workplace competencies pertaining to diversity, equity and inclusion has led her to develop and lead trainings for organizations, companies, and service providers on the topics such as LGBTQ+ competency, universal design, and bystander intervention.

Adrienne Dalla-Longa currently is the National Director of Volunteer Engagement at the Arthritis Society. She specializes in leadership development and engagement and has worked extensively in the higher education and health sectors, both in Canada and internationally. Her background and experience has exposed her to a variety of the challenges organization’s face when implementing inclusive practices and has led her to adopt different approaches in order to create accessible, purpose driven and flourishing programs.

Erin Huber holds her CVA certification and is a volunteer engagement professional currently working as the Coordinator of Volunteer Services at The Darling Home for Kids.  Through educational, professional and personal experience, Erin has acquired an interest and proficiency in engaging and leading volunteers with disabilities.  She is passionate about teaching others and promoting understanding of disability, inclusion and belonging.
